View Full Version : How to achieve desired let off?

On the Hybrid cam option, I understand many shooters find a certain amount of holding weight as an Ideal. These cams offer a high and low let off option by flipping the bottom draw stop around. Do any of you guys use any sort of adjustable stop, to better achieve the desired holding weight?
I feel there is a huge gap between the high and low letoff option , perhaps somewhere in between would be nice, just curious if anyone has done something different?
Thanks for your input and a big thanks to pse for this forum.

Yes you can change the holding weight on both the NRG and NRG Hybrid cams. I would tend to agree with you that somewhere in between 65% and 80% is sometimes needed to get that perfect holding weight. I'll give you a couple ideas. First of all, for all three of these you'll need to purchase an extra draw stop from your dealer. One way is to take the 65% side of the module and cut or file a little off from it. Make sure that you do this with the stop off the bow. Also, be sure that you smooth out any edges before you put it on the cam and use it. This will allow you to get in between the 65% and 80% settings. If you or someone you know has access to a machine shop, you can get a little more sophisticated with this. The stop I use for 65 pounds on my Mojo is the 65% side with aproximately .060 machined off from it. The other way is that you can take the same stop and add material to the 80% side. You can take plumbers epoxy, cold putty steel or jb weld and add a little to the stop. Again, do this with the stop off from the bow. Once it hardens you can file or sand the epoxy down to the desired amount you want to add to the 80% side of the stop. Lastly, you can drill and tap the 80% side of the draw stop. Also, be sure that you do this off from the bow and I would highly reccomend doing this with a drill press. You would drill and tap the back of the stop on the 80% side and then add a cap head or set screw. Make sure that if you use a set screw that the top of it is smoothed over very well so that there is no sharp edges contacting the cable. Doing this you should be able to very easily adjust the amount of holding weight by adjusting the screw. Of the three methods listed above I guess the second one of adding the epoxy is the easiest. Just be sure that you do this with an extra stop so you're not messing up the only one you have and PLEASE...do not do any of this work with the draw stop still screwed to the cam. Take it off before you do anything. I hope this helps.

eric that is well spoken and thought out. it appears YOU have a bit of "machinist" in your own blood!!!! it reminds me of when we would take a jewelers file and file and polish the sear pins on our perazzi trap guns to get that 2.5# trigger pull,,,this was until we decided to just go "release" trigger. then we would polish to get them to release faster..... you give a new meaning to really customizing a bow. i guess this is why you guys are as good as you are at such a young age with your archery shooting proficency....;) i'd like to hear some of ya'lls tricks for picking up speed besides the standard stuff.....

Eric, When you shaved the .060 off the 65% side of the draw stop, what % let off did you have? Do you know a machine shop that also will do this for us?

With a peak weight of 65 pounds and holding almost 22 it still works out to be just a touch over 65% letoff. I still say the easiest thing to do is to add a little to the 80% side of the module until you get it to where it feels right for you. Go get a couple of extra draw stops and be creative.

Thanks for your time, I am going to order a couple of draw stops and go to work, I would love to get my Primos to @ 70% let off.

Eric, maybe it would be a great idea for you and Nathan to get with the engineers again and convince Pete that it would be a good idea to make an additional draw stop that is 70% on one side and 75% on the other and ship both the 65/80 and a 70/75 with each bow.
The new Synergy Universals are being shipped with complete module kits so why not have some versatility with the draw stops on the NRG's !?!?
