I find myself getting "warm" after about three ends of scoring for a Vegas round. Before then, I am not quite as steady. I was wondering how you guys warm up before a shoot? If there is not a lot of practice time worked in what do you do? Do you warm-up or do you just start shooting? I have worked on my mental game and do not think that my unsteady aim is due to a weak mental program. I simply need more time to get "in the groove." -- Ike

When warming up for a target round I try try to shoot several ends to get lose. But for 3D at the big tournaments I usually go straight to the practice animals, it sometimes takes a few targets to get in sink but thats simulating a real tournament, because usually there is a lot of time between your last practice arrows and your first arrow in competition, so your starting cold again.

I think the key here is preparation. I would suggest that when you practice spend alot of it shooting for score. You know that in most indoor tournaments that you're going to get two official practice ends. You're right, six arrows is hardly enough warm up, but that's all we get. So when you practice, shoot only those two practice ends and start scoring. Through doing enough of this you should be able to figure out what you'll need to do to overcome the problem. You might need to stretch out really good before you start shooting or draw your bow a few times to try and get those muscles warmed up. Something that might work as well is to draw your bow several times and aim at something to simulate a couple of ends without actually shooting. Try some of these and see if something works. I do realize indoors is different from 3D, but I second what Loren says about having to basically learn to shoot cold. The ultimate goal here is try to get to the point where your shot is second nature to you and you don't have to go looking for it every time you start shooting. It's just there. I know most days that mine is there, but there a few days I could shoot 100 shots an still not have it. That's just the nature of archery though. Best of luck.;)

If you have a friend like I do that is a physical therapist, they have item that they use for people having to do physical therapy. It's like a big rubber band, and it works great for warming up those shoulder joints , right before a tournament. I fold mine up and keep it in my bowcase.
